What is Myotherapy?

by | Nov 14, 2017

So what is Myotherapy? And what is the difference between Myotherapy and Remedial Massage?

Myotherapy is an evidence based assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal pain and associated conditions.

Myotherapy and Remedial Massage are two distinct professions, with different aims and objectives and different health fund rebates.  In common with Physiotherapists, Osteopaths and Chiropractors, Myotherapists may use massage in their treatments when warranted, but they also call upon a wide range of other evidence-based treatment approaches and skill-sets in addition to manual therapy including dry needling, exercise prescription, pain management education, load management, activity and/or lifestyle modification.

Common conditions treated by a Myotherapist:

  • Neck & back pain
  • Headaches/migraines
  • Sciatica
  • Chronic Overuse (RSI)
  • Tennis/Golfers elbow
  • Joint pain
  • Numbness and tingling
  • General tightness
  • Carpal Tunnel
  • Knee, hip & ankle pain
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Elbow & wrist pain
